Madeira Island is the main island of the archipelago, which compromise Porto Santo, The Desertas Islands and Selvagens surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, known as « Pearl in the Atlantic » because of its unique amazing and exotic landscape with a peculiar fauna and flora.
A mild climate, we may say that we have summer throughout the year with the average temperatures of 25ºC in summer and 17º in winter. The seawater is around 22ºC in summer and gradually cooling to 15º by late winter.
Madeira Island is also known for its sheer peaks and abrupt sea cliffs. Cabo Girão has 580 meters high but the highest peaks are Pico Ruivo with 1862 meters high and Pico do Arieiro with 1818 meters high.
